Ukraine gets its first gold in Paris, fencer Olga becomes double medalist

War-torn Ukraine won its first gold medal of the Paris Olympics by defeating South Korea in the women’s team saber fencing final on Saturday. Ukraine team came back from six points behind and defeated South Korea 45-42 with the help of Olga Kharlan’s 22 points. She came into the final stages of the match after her team was down 37-40 and won 8-2. Olga Kharlan had earlier also won bronze for Ukraine in the individual event. This is Ukraine’s third medal overall at Paris 2024. Its shooter Serhiy Kulish has also won silver.
