Lalit Maurya is explaining that how tolerant plants are to the side effects caused by pollutants depends on the level of ascorbic acid present in them, which is found highest in Peepal.There was a time when everyone planted trees like Neem and Mango in the courtyard of their house. Even today Peepal and Banyan are worshiped in villages and cities. But as times changed, these trees were replaced by ornamental trees like palms in the courtyards. With time, these trees are gradually disappearing from the roads also. But do you know that local trees like mango, neem, peepal can help in preventing air pollution.

A new study conducted in this regard has revealed that some local trees and crops found in India can be helpful in reducing the effects of increasing air pollution by absorbing and filtering pollutants. Published in the journal Current Science, ‘The results of this study show that crops like maize, arhar and safflower along with trees like peepal, neem, mango are best suited for agricultural areas where air pollution levels are very high. During this study conducted in Patna, these trees reduced air pollution.
