AMD’s Monumental Move: Unveiling Its Largest Global Design Center in India


AMD, a trailblazer in the semiconductor industry, has made an indelible mark on the Indian landscape with the inauguration of its colossal Technostar research and development campus in Bengaluru. This ambitious move not only signifies a significant boost to the company’s footprint in India but also heralds a new era of technological advancement within the country.

The inauguration of the Technostar campus stands as a testament to AMD’s commitment, cemented by a whopping $400 million investment over the next half-decade, reinforcing India’s pivotal role in the global semiconductor arena. Announced amidst the Semicon 2023, this substantial investment underscores AMD’s dedication to fostering innovation and talent development in India.

Spanning an impressive 500,000 square feet, the Technostar campus is set to house around 3,000 skilled engineers dedicated to pushing the boundaries of CPU, GPU, adaptive SoC, and FPGA development. This emphasis on cutting-edge technology aligns seamlessly with India’s semiconductor program, echoing the country’s vision to cultivate a nurturing ecosystem for semiconductor design and talent incubation.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Cabinet Minister for Railways, Telecommunications, Electronics, and Information Technology, Government of India, inaugurated the facility, emphasizing the pivotal role AMD’s investment plays in India’s semiconductor evolution.

Key AMD dignitaries, including Mark Papermaster, the Chief Technology Officer, and David Wang, Senior Vice President of Radeon Technologies Group, graced the event. The leadership mantle for the site rests in the capable hands of Deepak Agarwal.

Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the significance of AMD’s investment in bolstering India’s semiconductor ecosystem, lauding the move as a catalyst for technological growth and skill enhancement within the nation.
